Revelation 6

Day 100: When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.

The first beast, living creature—lion—calls up the first horse with its rider. Due to the parallel with the ‘discourse on the last things’ we said that this is the preaching of the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Day 101: When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the centre of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”

The Lamb opens the third seal. The third ‘living creature’—the face of a man—says: Come! The third horse appears, with his rider, who has a pair of scales in his hand. There is something to be weighed, but it is very scarce, and it is very expensive, because of the market mechanism of supply and demand, a kilogram of wheat for a day’s wages, and three kilograms of barley for a day’s wages.

Day 102: When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

The Lamb opens the fourth seal and the fourth ‘living creature’—flying eagle—says: “Come!” Then the pale horse appears with its rider.

The pale colour ‘chloros’ is also translated as green, the colour of grass.

Day 103: When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained.

It always goes like this. If man wants to be like God, to take might and right in his own hand, and to set up his own kingdom as ‘Babylon’, as the city and culture of man, he immediately starts to persecute and oppress those who do not expect any good to come forth from sinful and fallen ‘man’.

Day 105: And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

Who are these martyrs? If we continue drawing parallels with the Lord Jesus’ ‘discourse on the last things’, the great tribulation He speaks about has yet to come. In that case they must be people who have been killed during the past centuries—slaughtered Jews and slaughtered Christians, one group because of the Word of God, the other because of the testimony of Jesus and the Word of God?
