The fifth angel blows the trumpet after the threefold ‘woes’, with the warning announcement of the last three trumpets. God has begun and is pursuing His judgment of the apostate, reprobate world.
Revelation 9
Day 134: When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. 3 And out of the smoke locusts came down on the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth.1
There is an inhabited Abyss, the existence of which is known to demons. They once pleaded with the Lord not to send them there before the appointed time. Apparently, they know that there is an appointed time that they will be thrown into that place.
Day 135: And they were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.
Natural man wants a world without God. He himself is a god in the depths of his thinking. However, people without God, the god-less, discover that a world from which they have banned God is not a neutral vacuum.
Day 136: They were not allowed to kill them but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes.1
A scorpion’s bite is usually only painful for humans. The bite of some of the approximately six hundred kinds of scorpion is greatly feared because its venom can cause death within seven hours such as that of the Andoctronus australis, found in the Sahara Desert.
Day 137: And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; and they will long to die and death flees from them.
A death wish can materialise in terrible circumstances. When Elijah was is in a gloomy mood suffering from deep depression he prayed and said that he wished to die: “Take my life, Lord.”
Day 138: The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads they wore something like crowns of gold, and their faces resembled human faces. Their hair was like women’s hair, and their teeth were like lions’ teeth. They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the thundering of many horses and chariots rushing into battle. They had tails with stingers, like scorpions, and in their tails they had power to torment people for five months.1
Locusts’ heads do look a little like the heads of horses, and horses were the pre-eminent machines of war in ancient times. The differences are that these locusts are steel-armoured and have tails with stingers.
Day 139: They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).1
The leadership of the whole war machine is in the hands of the underworld. The general staff is demonically inspired. Abaddon means abyss, destruction, downfall in Hebrew and Apollyon means destroyer, corrupter in Greek.
Day 140: The first woe is past; behold, two woes are still coming after these things.
When Jeremiah describes the ‘judgments of the Lord’, he says: “I looked on the earth, and behold, it was formless and void; and to the Heavens, and they had no light.
Day 141: The sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the four horns of the golden altar that is before God. It said to the sixth angel who had the trumpet…1
The golden altar has become visible once again—the altar of incense, with the saints’ prayers on it, 1the prayers calling to God for revenge. These prayers cry out for ultimate victory and redemption, for the restoration of divine justice, and for righteous vengeance.
Day 142: Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind.
Are these the four angels who were holding back the four winds, restraining violent storms/hurricanes who were not allowed to take action until the ‘hundred and forty-four thousand’ servants of God from Israel had been sealed?
Day 143: The number of the mounted troops was twice ten thousand times ten thousand. I heard their number.1
‘Do I hear right?’ John may have thought when he heard the number. Yes, I did hear that: two times ten thousand times ten thousand. So that means: 2 X 10.000 X
Day 144: And this is how I saw in the vision the horses and those who sat on them: the riders had breastplates the colour of fire and of hyacinth and of brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths proceed fire and smoke and brimstone. A third of mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, which proceeded out of their mouths. For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads; and with them they do harm.
The statement that the four angels are released precisely at that hour, on that day, in that month and in that year, to kill a third of all the people, does not only point to the fact that the things in this world happen according to God’s plan, it could also mean that a logistical time of preparation is necessary in order to wage such tremendous warfare.
